Vale Council Celebrates Colourful Success of Paintworx Street Art Festival
The Vale of Glamorgan Council has celebrated the success of Paintworx, a new graffiti and street art festival that brought colour, creativity and culture to Central Park in Barry.
Organised by local artists Hurts So Good, the free two-day festival on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August brought together some of the UK's street artists for a vibrant programme of live artwork, graffiti battles, music, fashion and independent traders.
Central Park was transformed into a showcase of creativity, with visitors able to watch artists at work and experience the atmosphere of a family-friendly festival celebrating street art and contemporary culture.
Cllr Rhiannon Birch, Cabinet Member for Education, Art and the Welsh Language, said: “It was fantastic to see Central Park brought to life by Paintworx and to welcome residents and visitors to this exciting new festival.
“Events such as this provide a wonderful opportunity to bring people together, showcase creative talent and make the most of our public spaces. The energy and colour the festival brought to Barry was fantastic to see, and we are pleased to have supported an event which offered something for people of all ages to enjoy.”
The festival provided a platform for artists to create new work in front of the public, alongside entertainment, food and trader stalls, helping to create a lively atmosphere throughout the weekend.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council continues to support opportunities that encourage people to enjoy the county's rich public spaces, while helping to promote culture, creativity and community activity to make Barry and the wider Vale a great place to live, work and visit.
