Summer Reading Challenge 2026:Read to the Beat
Are you ready to read to the beat? This year’s summer reading challenge is celebrating everything music, helping to engage children in reading and encourage literacy and learning through the school holidays.
Head over to your local Vale library to find out the exciting range of books that are available for this year’s challenge – you can also browse online and keep up to date with your reading goals there.
Some titles included in the theme are The Paper Piano, a story of Noah who wishes to play piano so desperately he crafts his own out of paper, until his musical dreams come true and Melody Queen, a story which Simi follows her passions to become a musician by overcoming challenges.
Get ready for a summer packed with stories, creativity, and fun! Children can pick up a free activity pack, dive into exciting music-themed events, and borrow specially selected books – all designed to keep them curious, active, and engaged with reading throughout the summer holidays.
There's something for everyone at Vale libraries, with an action-packed programme of activities for children and families, including inspiring Author Talks, hands-on Music Maker Sessions, exciting Coding Challenges, and much more. Keep an eye out to see what's happening near you and join in the summer fun!
