Barry Island Restaurant Development Moves Closer to Completion
Work on a new hospitality development at Nell’s Point in Barry has reached another major milestone with the installation of its windows - offering a first glimpse of the stunning views visitors will soon be able to enjoy.
The prominent old public conveniences at Nell’s Point are being turned into a refreshed modern complex, including a restaurant space, and remains on course to open in mid-May.
The restaurant has already been assigned to the hospitality chain Loungers, who have branches throughout South Wales and the South-East of England – including Ocho Lounge in Penarth.
The newly installed windows frame sweeping views across Whitmore Bay, while also showcasing the newly landscaped areas at the front of the building that will further enhance the visitor experience.
The site is being transformed in partnership with developers Next Colour - the company behind the Oyster Wharf scheme in the Mumbles.
James Morse, Chief Executive Officer Next Colour, said: “We were keen to get the windows completed so we could showcase to everyone the views and the progress being made. Now they’re in, you can really see those wonderful views and they’re stunning.
“We’re on course for a mid-May opening, with the internal fit-out also now underway. It’s been a real team effort between ourselves at Next Colour, Loungers and the Council to bring this building back to life, and we’re looking forward to welcoming people through the doors.”
The project has carefully retained much of the building’s original structure, blending its heritage into the refreshed space.
Cllr Lis Burnett, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “This is a really exciting stage in the development. It’s been fantastic to see how much of the original building has been preserved, and you can truly appreciate just how special this location is.
“The views across Whitmore Bay are incredible, and the landscaping at the front of the building lifts the entire area. This project shows just what can be achieved when we as a Council and our partners work together to regenerate key sites across the Vale for everyone to enjoy.”
The restaurant forms part of ongoing investment in Barry Island, aimed at enhancing its appeal as a year-round destination for residents and visitors alike.
