The completion of these new facilities marks a major milestone in how the Council is delivering to improving visitor experience across the county.

More than £530,000 was secured by the Council last year to fund such projects through the Welsh Government’s Brilliant Basics programme.

Barry Island Changing RoomsAs part of this investment, £300,000 was awarded to Countryside Services to refurbish toilet facilities at Porthkerry and Cosmeston Country Parks, enhancing comfort and accessibility for park users, with works at both locations now also complete.

These enhancements are the latest additions to a growing portfolio of successful funding bids made by the Vale of Glamorgan Council in recent years - including infrastructure improvements for the Cosmeston Gateway Project, improvements to the toilet facilities at Ogmore-by-Sea, Southerndown and Llantwit Major beaches and upgraded seating, shelter, footpaths and parking for the Porthkerry Gateway to the Coast project.

Cllr Bronwen Brooks, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Sustainable Places, said: “We’re thrilled to see that these new and improved facilities at some of the Vale most-beloved destinations are now open for visitors to use and enjoy.

“The brand-new showers and changing areas at Barry Island, together with the refurbished toilets at Cosmeston and Porthkerry Country Parks, demonstrate our continued commitment to providing high-quality public spaces that are both fit for purpose and accessible to all.”
