The Town Boost Programme is a unique chance to deliver rapid, visible improvements to a key space in the town centre.

Running from 17 to 20 March, the programme includes a series of workshops and community events, culminating in a vibrant One Day Town Makeover on 21 March. Throughout the week, local people will be invited to take part in practical activities, business workshops and hands on sessions that will help identify an area ready for transformation.

Those wishing to get involved can register for free via Eventbrite.

Llantwit Major is one of only three towns in Wales selected to trial the One Week Town Boost. The programme is being delivered by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, funded by Welsh Government and supported by the Design Commission for Wales (DCFW).

David Engwicht of Creative Communities International—known globally for his innovative approach to community led placemaking—will guide participants through activities designed to uncover and celebrate the town’s unique identity. His approach empowers residents to take ownership of their local spaces through simple but effective actions that enhance wellbeing, vibrancy and connection.

Cllr Bronwen Brooks, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Places, said: ‘This intensive week supports the Llantwit Major Placemaking Plan, which aims to create an accessible, attractive and thriving town centre. Placemaking puts local people at the heart of shaping their communities and improving quality of life. I’m looking forward to seeing what comes of this exciting opportunity.’

Cllr Dr Peter Dickson, a Llantwit Major Town Councillor leading Placemaking, said: ‘Llantwit Major is pleased to be included in David Engwicht’s work here in Wales. As a Town Council we look forward to supporting him and the team from the Vale of Glamorgan in working through practical solutions to enhance this historic and vibrant town. As a town which is starting to realise the benefit of Placemaking, this is another exciting addition to the current initiatives.’

The Plan has been co produced by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Llantwit Major Town Council, local businesses, community groups and residents. It is built around three themes—Celebrating, Connecting and Thriving—which guide future development and investment in the town.
