Public Toilet Refurbishment Programme Progresses at Pace Across Vale Towns
Residents and visitors across the Vale of Glamorgan are seeing major improvements to public toilet facilities as a refurbishment programme transforms amenities in key town centres.
Works have now been successfully completed in Cowbridge and Llantwit Major, delivering cleaner, brighter and more durable facilities designed to better serve local communities and visitors.
The comprehensive upgrades in Cowbridge have delivered significant improvements to both the toilet facilities and the adjacent bus stop.
Works included full hygienic wall cladding, new anti-slip flooring, modern ceilings and lighting, vandal-resistant finishes, new sanitaryware, baby changing facilities, and upgraded cubicles.
In addition, asbestos was safely removed from the accessible toilet ceiling, alongside electrical improvements. At the nearby bus stop, the asbestos roof was replaced, new seating installed, fascia and guttering renewed, and the structure fully repainted.
The refurbishment programme is funded through the Council’s Neighbourhood Services Capital Scheme, with additional support from Pride in Place (PiP) funding.
Works will also begin imminently to upgrade the toilet facilities at the library on Kings Square in Barry, with completion expected within a matter of weeks. Further upgrades to public conveniences in Penarth are also due to commence over the coming months.
Cllr Mark Wilson, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Building Services, said: “We are committed to investing in good quality public facilities across the Vale of Glamorgan, and the completion of the works in Cowbridge marks an important step in our wider programme to modernise public conveniences in our town centres.
“We have listened to feedback from residents and town centre users, and we recognise how important well-maintained public conveniences are to local communities and visitors alike.
“It is essential that our public facilities are accessible, safe and maintained to a high standard for everyone who relies on them.
“These upgrades ensure residents and visitors have access to clean, modern and fit-for-purpose amenities, with improved durability and renewed fixtures that will stand up to everyday use.”
