Specialist contractors to carry out road improvements
The Vale of Glamorgan Council has appointed specialist contractors to carry out road improvements throughout the County.
Following a tender process, Tarmac Trading has been selected to undertake carriageway resurfacing work in the Vale for the next three years.
That improves road condition, safety and lifespan by removing worn-out road layers.
Another company, Road Maintenance Services Ltd, will be responsible for surface dressing roads over the next two years.
This is a technique that involves sealing the road surface against water ingress, preventing potholes and improving skid resistance.
Cllr Mark Wilson, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Building Services, said: “We know from our recent budget consultation that improving the condition of roads is a top priority for our residents.

“We have listened to that feedback and committed millions of pounds to upgrade our highway system over the next five years.
“Part of that investment will see these expert contractors carry out work that will make our roads smoother and stronger.
“There will also be some enhancements to pavements as part of these contracts.
“I’d like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while this important work takes place.”
As well as road and pavement maintenance, the Council has also committed funds for other public space improvements.
These include better streetlighting, an upgraded street cleaning operation and money to enhance public buildings.
