August 25 Meeting

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

A couple of members hadn't finished the book before the meeting, which made it difficult discussing the ending, which was unexpected and completely changed the mind of one reader about one of the characters. Despite a slow, ponderous start that was a little off-putting for some, you are eventually drawn into a story with many twists and uncertainties. Throughout the story you feel your loyalty to the characters changing, questioning your own empathy and feeling sorrow for other characters caught up in the disintegration of the main protagonists' lives.

It is a fascinating insight into a twisted, manipulative mind, but if you want to get the most out of the story, DON'T see the film first! Highly recommended.
