Barry
The Open Books exhibition was started back in 2010 by Barry-based artist, Mary Husted. The first exhibition was held at the National Library of Wales. The exhibition since expanded, travelling to Bristol and the Sangsham Museum of Contemporary Art in China.
The exhibition features hand painted folding books and stunning wall-hung artworks crafted by internationally recognised artists from Wales, China, Canada, India and the US. The exhibition itself has grown so large that it can no longer be accommodated by one venue, and therefore tours continuously worldwide. It returns to Barry on Saturday April 13 in collaboration with the Paper Exchange at Bay Arts, an exhibition of works on paper by Welsh and Chinese artists.
Cllr Bob Penrose, Cabinet Member for Learning and Culture, said: “The return of the exhibition which has had such far-reaching influence is a symbol of pride for Barry’s arts community. To host such a unique collection of works crafted by a range of talented individuals is a true honour. This exhibition demonstrates one of the many reasons why Barry residents should continue to make use of the Art Centre Gallery’s free events and exhibitions. “The collaboration of artists from so many nations brought together by their passion for art is inspiring to see. We hope that the gallery will continue to play a leading role in the arts on both a local and international level. It is projects like this which contributes to ensuring that the arts community in Barry continues to thrive.”

The event will run between 2pm and 4pm and will be open to the public. Admission is free.
