Vale of Glamorgan Schools shine in A and AS Level examinations

The Vale of Glamorgan once again produced an excellent A Level performance, with more than a quarter of students achieving the top two grades.

In total, 27.7 per cent of pupils were awarded A* or A grades which is higher than both the regional Central South Consortium and Welsh averages.


A hefty 76.9 per cent of students received A* to C grades, a figure also above the Welsh average, while the percentage achieving the Level 3 threshold of 2 grades A* to E rose by 1.1 per cent to 98.1 per cent.


The proportion of entries that gained a pass grade between A* and E also climbed to 98.1 per cent – up 1.6 per cent on last year.


As far as individual schools are concerned, Llantwit Major Comprehensive recorded improvement across the board, with the proportion of pupils gaining A* to A, A* to C and A* to E all up on last year.

 

And, fresh from a sparkling inspection report, Cowbridge once again excelled, with 30.6 per cent of students gaining A* to A grades and 81.5 per cent A* to C.

Stanwell was another top performer after more than a third of all students achieved A*to A grades.


There were also encouraging signs from new schools Whitmore and Pencoedtre High as Whitmore posted a 100 per cent pass rate, 26.3 per cent of which gained A* and A grades, and Pencoedtre saw 71.6 per cent of pupils gain A* to C grades.

 

St Cyres Comprehensive improved their A* to C figures by 9 per cent and Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg Comprehensive’s A* to A and A* to C grades are both approximately 7 per cent better than 2018.

 

In AS Level exams, 24.4 per cent of students gained an A grade, 6.7 per cent more than 12 months ago.

The pass rate was also up, rising 0.2 per cent on last year as 97.6 per cent of pupils emerged with A* to E grades.
