Ysgol Gymraeg Sant Curig excels in recent inspection report

A Vale of Glamorgan school has shone in a recent inspection report.

Ysgol Gymraeg Sant Curig in Barry was judged excellent in three of the five areas in which it was assessed and good in the other two.


The school received the highest rating possible in the categories of wellbeing and attitudes to learning; Care, support and Guidance and Leadership and management, while Standards and Teaching and Learning experiences were given good with excellent features. 


In the area of Wellbeing and attitudes to learning, among other factors the report hailed the close connection pupils and teachers share.

It read: “The strength of the working relationships between pupils and staff is an exceptional feature of the school’s work and contributes extensively to the effective learning environment.”


It was also noted that ‘The Governors willingness to challenge the school in order to ensure improvement is a very strong feature.’


Under the section Care support and guidance, the report was similarly complimentary, stating: “The school is an extremely caring and friendly community that promotes the importance of good behaviour very effectively.”


And headteacher Sian Owen was singled out for acclaim when it came to Leadership and management, with the report stating: “The headteacher provides innovative and robust leadership and sets a clear strategic direction for developing the school. She has very high expectations and is passionate about the community that she serves.”


The report also praised the school’s management team which Estyn describes as being ‘of a very high standard.”

 

Cllr Bob Penrose, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Learning and Culture, said: “I’d like to congratulate Ysgol Gymraeg Sant Curig on its excellent recent inspection report. A lot of hard work goes into an outcome as impressive as that so staff and pupils deserve a great deal of credit.


“It is clear pupils leaving Ysgol Gymraeg Sant Curig will have been well prepared for the next step of their educational journey.


“Education is extremely important to this Council as we are committed to giving Vale children the best possible to start in life. To this end, our 21st Century Schools investment programme will continue into 2019 and beyond. This is a unique collaboration between the Council and Welsh Government that will see hundreds of millions of pounds spent to transform nursery, primary, secondary, faith and special education across the County.”
