30 hour Childcare Offer is welcomed support for parents in the Vale of Glamorgan

Welsh Government has recently announced that the Vale of Glamorgan will begin delivering the 30 hour Childcare Offer across the whole County in early 2019; from December 2018 onwards, the Local Authority will be preparing work to make this happen. 


Eligible children will be able to benefit from their entitlement of Foundation Phase Nursery (12.5hours) and Childcare (17.5 hours). 


It is anticipated that applications will be open to parents the week following February half term, Monday 04 March 2019, with a view to childcare being made available following the Easter break on Monday 29 April 2019. 


There is certain criterion set for the offer which includes:

  • A child is aged 3 or 4yrs old and entitled to a Foundation Phase Nursery place in either a maintained (within school) or non-maintained (within an existing specific childcare setting)
  • Parent/s must be employed or self-employed and permanently reside in Wales; both parents must be working in a two parent family, or the sole parent in a lone parent family and earn a weekly minimum equivalent of 16 hours at the national minimum wage (NMW) or national living wage (NLW) and be able to prove they are working via their earnings.  Further information will be available when applying for the offer for parents on maternity/paternity, certain types of benefits claimed etc.   
  • Only childcare providers registered with the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) who agrees to the terms and conditions of the offer are able to provide childcare places.
  • Any additional charges including lunch, snack and transport will be covered by the parent/s.
  • Funding for childcare is paid directly to participating childcare providers.
