Cllr Peter King, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services and Transport, took a trip on the 95A service between Llandough Hospital and Penarth to mark Catch the Bus Week.

The route provides a vital transport link for local residents and has recently received financial support from the Council to ensure its continuation.

Catch the Bus Week is a drive to promote the benefits of this type of travel organised by Greener Journeys UK that runs from July 1 to 7.

Now in its fifth year, the campaign highlights the environmental, economic and social advantages of taking the bus as well as drawing attention to the 3.5 million Britons that travel to work by bus every day.

“I’m proud to support Catch the Bus Week, which helps promote the many plus points this method of transport has to offer. In an age of increased congestion and the environmental concerns that causes, travelling by bus is one simple way to reduce our carbon footprint. As we all look to live greener lives, I would encourage everyone to use their local bus service as much as possible. Not only is it good for the planet, but also an affordable and sociable way to get around.

The 95A bus service in particular plays a vital role within our community. It allows residents to visit ill or injured family and friends in hospital and also offers professionals who perform such important jobs a regular and reliable way of getting to work.” - Cllr King, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services and Transport

Gareth Stevens, Acting Operations and Commercial Director at Cardiff Bus, who operate the 95a service described Catch the Bus Week as a fantastic way to highlight the various benefits of travelling in this fashion.

“We at Cardiff Bus are pleased to be working with Cllr King during this year’s Catch the Bus Week,” he said.“The campaign is vital in highlighting the numerous benefits of bus travel, so we would encourage people to get involved and find out more. We hope to see new faces catch the bus and look forward to their feedback on our services.” - Gareth Stevens, Acting Operations and Commercial Director at Cardiff Bus

Promoted by bus companies, passenger groups and Local Authorities, Catch the Bus Week involves ticket giveaways and other events organised across the Country.
