Work begins on Brecon Court housing development
WORK has begun on a £3.5 million project at Brecon Court in Barry to increase the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s housing stock.
Developers Jehu Group are in the process of constructing 28 new purpose-built homes to meet local demand.
Built on the former sheltered accommodation site, the scheme will consist of nine two-bedroom houses, four three-bedroom family houses and 15 one-bedroom apartments reserved for older people.
Part funded by the Welsh Government, all of the new properties will be constructed to their standards for social housing, providing accommodation for those in the community that need it most.
Cllr John Thomas, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said:
“This development is part of wider Council plans to increase its housing stock and satisfy much-needed local demand for accommodation of this type.
“The proposals for the site were drafted after widespread consultation with interested local parties and should be of real benefit to the community.
“The range of different properties being constructed can provide comfortable places to live for families, couples and older residents.
“It also sees a previously disused site revived to provide an important function within the area.”
Jehu’s Managing Director, Marc Jehu said:
