“Shwmae” will be hosted by Vale Breakfast presenter, Gareth Knight, and is aimed at engaging new and existing Welsh language learners.

Complete beginners will be able to pick up conversational Welsh, as well as providing more advanced learners with the opportunity to practise their Welsh outside of the classroom. It will also encourage those who are unable to attend weekly classes to have a go at learning.

Vale of Glamorgan Council Director of Learning and Skills, Paula Ham said: “This is a positive incentive to encourage more people be a part of the growing number of Welsh language speakers and learners.

“Without a doubt, it is projects like these which will help cultivate a thriving Welsh language community of the future.”

At the beginning of 2019, Bro Radio pledged to broadcast a series of weekly and monthly podcasts, covering a range of topics including sport, history, mental health, the local community and the Welsh Language.

Nathan Spackman, Operations Director at Bro Radio said: "The podcast is a great opportunity for Bro Radio to continue to develop its Welsh Language content, alongside our existing Welsh Show which airs each Tuesday night from 9pm."

"As a non-Welsh speaker, I really enjoyed listening to the first two podcasts over the bank holiday weekend and I hope others will enjoy learning from them too."

Each podcast is around 12 minutes long, and is broadcast weekly. It is completely free to download or listen to from Bro Radio’s website.
