    Vale of Glamorgan

two ladies over 50Well, join like-minded residents at the Vale 50+ Strategy Forum, an active group that works to both support and champion the needs of those aged 50 and over in the Vale and across Wales.

The Forum is always keen to welcome new members and has several groups that meet regularly to discuss matters important to them. These include health, housing and transport issues, but can also be recreational. At the arts, craft and leisure group, for instance, members enjoy learning about, and hearing from, local artists and musicians.

In December 2018, the Forum signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Vale of Glamorgan Council, which sets out how the organisations will work together in the future.

It highlights and recognises the contribution of the Forum and the important work undertaken by the Forum Executive and the wider membership.

The Executive are elected by Forum members and meet once a month to plan events, receive talks on a wide range of matters and to respond to local consultations (including the Council’s recent public toilets strategy consultation).

Middle aged male trioMeetings are open to all Forum members, with recent speakers including the Alzheimer’s Society and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s Home Safety team.

If you’re interested in learning more about the Forum, you might want to visit its new website. Designed by members of the 50+ Forum, it sets out the work of its interest groups, dates of future meetings and provides information about accessible services and activities in the Vale.

You can also catch up with the work of the Forum by reading its Herald magazine or by following them on Facebook or Twitter.

If you would like to discuss the work of the Forum and voice your interest in joining, contact the Council’s Strategy and Partnership team who help support their work.
