Seren GroupJamie Bailey is one of two from St. Cyres that will be attending, along with Morgan Gamer of Llantwit Major and Stanwell’s Emma Monaghan.

The initiative comes from the WG Seren Network, which consists of 11 hubs across Wales. The Hubs provide the brightest students in Wales with information, guidance and support to raise aspirations to apply to top Universities in the UK and globally.

As part of the Seren Network, partnerships have been established to offer opportunities for Welsh pupils to take part in summer schemes at top Universities overseas.

Among these is the Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) Program at Yale University, a summer academic enrichment and leadership program for high schoolers from around the world; and the Harvard Summer School Pre-College Program at Harvard University, an immersive, collaborative, and transformative residential experience.

This year, the Seren Network will aim to support 53 young people attending either the Yale or Harvard programmes, which will be co-funded by the Welsh Government.

Vale of Glamorgan Council Director of Learning and Skills, Paula Ham said: “The partnerships established are a huge success story for both the Seren Network and the students involved.

“With access to these programmes, they will be exposed to a wealth of experiences, invaluable to their academic development. I wish them the best of luck over the summer.”

Jamie Bailey of St. Cyres School said: “I feel very privileged and grateful to have been selectedLogo Seren Network English for the programme and to be receiving ongoing support from the Seren Network. The application process was very demanding but definitely worthwhile!

"I cannot wait to meet lots of new people. I am very thankful to be given such an incredible opportunity."
