At A level, nearly a third of all grades awarded were either A* or A, representing a five per cent improvement on 2019.

A hefty 82.2 per cent of entries gained A* to C grades, while 98.6 per cent of all grades were A* to E.

As far as individual schools are concerned, Llantwit Major Comprehensive recorded their best ever results and all students have secured a place at their first-choice university.

Both Cowbridge and Stanwell improved further on last year’s performance with almost 40 per cent of all grades either A* or A.

At Barry sixth form, which includes Whitmore and Pencoedtre High Schools, all students achieved the level 3 threshold of at least of two grades A* to E.

Results for students at Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg were outstanding with all entries achieving a pass. More than a quarter of all grades were either A* or A and three students secured places to study at either Oxford or Cambridge universities.

At AS level, more than a quarter of grades awarded were an A while 71.4 per cent of grades awarded were A to C.

Cllr Lis Burnett, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration, said: “After an extremely challenging and unique 12 month, and despite examinations not being sat, I’m absolutely delighted that students in Vale of Glamorgan have once again achieved outstanding AS and A level results.

“I’d like to pass on my congratulations to all involved and also like to wish those students leaving our educational system every success for the future. These results suggest you can look forward with huge optimism.”
