Women’s Arts Association Wales exhibition kicks off Art Central reopening

The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Art Central Gallery reopened on April 26 with a display of over 90 exhibits by the Women’s Arts Association Wales (WAAW).

Art work Maureen Carlson ClementinesThe exhibition was originally created to celebrate International Women’s Day 2020 and celebrates the work of established, upcoming and first-time female artists working both locally and across the globe. It showcases a variety of media, including sculpture, paintings, textiles, ceramics, photography and prints. 


The exhibition has been kept intact throughout the COVID 19 pandemic and is now ready for public viewing.

Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture, Councillor Kathryn McCaffer, said: “During the past year, the arts have helped many people deal with the impacts of the pandemic and lockdown. Being able to express ourselves creatively is both an outlet and an escape from the things that are going on around us and has proven to be extremely important for people’s wellbeing.


“The arts have also brought many of us together, helping us feel more connected at a time when we’ve been told to stay apart.”


The exhibition is open Monday-Friday between 10am-1pm and 2pm-4pm, and 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 3:30pm on Saturday. Visitors must book before attending, contact Barry library on 01446 422425.
