The Vale of Glamorgan Council has spent £30,000 so football matches can take place at Colcot Sports Centre this winter.

Changing rooms at the location have been out of use after a problem with the boiler affected the showers.

But the Council has now arranged for a new boiler to be installed and made round-the clock call-out arrangement for future maintenance.

The result is that football matches and other events can now be staged at the venue once again.

Cllr Kathryn McCaffer, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture, said:

“After the boiler was condemned because of safety concerns, our property maintenance team worked with external specialists to resolve the matter, which was complicated by the fact there is no gas supply on site.

“The Council has spent a significant sum of money to fix the problem and thankfully matches can nowresume at Colcot Sports Centre.”

Mark Harvey, Chairman of the Vale of Glamorgan Football League, said:

“I would like to thank Dave Knevett and the other Vale of Glamorgan Council staff who worked with me to get the sports centre up and running once again. The league has other ideas for how the sports centre can be improved and we look forward to working with the Council to realise those plans.”
