Earlier this year, a project to build 11 properties, including five for disabled residents, was completed on the site at Skomer Road in Barry.

Now there are additional plans to construct eight one-bedroom apartments, 18 two-bedroom houses, three three-bed houses and two three-bedroom adapted bungalows.

This is the latest scheme to address a significant need for council housing in the Vale, with around 6,000 people currently on the waiting list.

It follows the completion of a similar development at Llys Llechwedd Jenner, while there are others in the pipeline at Hayes Road and Hayeswood Road in Barry along with an older persons’ apartment complex in Penarth.

Cllr Margaret Wilkinson, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood services and Transport, said: “The need for council housing is increasing so it’s vital we provide for that by delivering top quality properties.

“This is one of a number of developments currently underway and should provide families, couples and single people with comfortable places to live.

“All properties been constructed to the highest specification and standards and we hope to welcome people into them soon.”
