The Golden Pass scheme has been piloted in Barry since September 2021 and has seen over 100 residents access the eight free activity sessions.

Three Activity Hubs are now available. These are in Barry; the Western Vale, with activities mainly located in Cowbridge, Llantwit Major and Rhoose; and the Eastern Vale, with activities mainly located in Dinas Powys and Penarth.

Over 40 activity providers are involved in the scheme, offering over 100 different opportunities - ranging from Archery to Zumba. Session availability will differ in each area, but the team is encouraging residents to give feedback on how their needs can be best met.

Residents can sign up using the online form.

They will then receive a welcome pack in the post, with a step-by-step guide on how to access the activity and get the most out of the project.

Cabinet Member for Leisure Sport and Wellbeing,  Cllr. Gwyn John said “This is an excellent opportunity for residents aged 60+ across the Vale to access activities on their doorstep. Now that COVID-19 restrictions have eased, residents can get back into the community and start a new activity of their choosing.

“Many thanks to Sport Wales and Cardiff & Vale University Health Board for their continued investment in communities across the Vale of Glamorgan.”

Dependent on future funding, the Council will be exploring further areas to offer activities to reach as many residents as possible.
