Community groups given chance to pitch for shared prosperity funding
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is offering local groups the opportunity to access funding via the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
The Council’s Creative Communities and Vale Economy team is planning a series of ‘hacks’ aimed primarily at third sector organisations and local businesses.
These will be an opportunity to share the Vale of Glamorgan Councils vision for the Shared Prosperity funds, with a focus on the county’s local needs and opportunities. The events will be hosted by Cwmpas.
Cllr Lis Burnett, Leader of the Council, said: “The Shared Prosperity Fund is a welcome investment in the Vale, particularly at this challenging time. These events will provide an excellent opportunity to co-design solutions with other colleagues and organisations, and work together to ensure that the funds are focussed where they are most needed.”
The UK Government recently announced that it had approved the local spending plans for the UK Shared Prosperity Plan. As a result, the Vale of Glamorgan Council have been busy making some exciting plans for the coming months.
There will be a series both community and business hack days focused on responding to the Cost-of-Living crisis and other concerns. Cost of living crisis, pockets of persistent inequality, economic opportunities, health and well-being , reducing emissions and a switch to net zero, locally important employment sectors and jobs, and consideration of the specific needs of rural communities.
The community hack days are designed to bring people together to develop fresh ideas to tackle the effects of the crisis and other social challenges. Participants will learn the basics of setting up a sustainable venture or project, including building on the strengths of the community, creating new ideas, applying for funding, generating income, working with different groups, and how to test ideas. No experience of running a project or social enterprise is necessary.
The business hack events aim to set up sustainable collaborations, projects, networks or events that build on the strengths of the Vale’s business community. The sessions will cover developing innovative ideas, sourcing investment, generating new income streams, working with different groups and how to test ideas.
All events will culminate with a final pitch event to a judging panel.
