With a theme of woodland and nature, the new park boasts recycled plastic seating areas and new equipment, including climbing units, seesaws, and swings, designed for children up to 12 years old.

The play area also features a range of inclusive apparatus, including a wheelchair-accessible roundabout, musical and tactile sensory equipment, and cradle swings.

Councillor Mark Wilson, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Building Services, said: “I’m delighted to see St David’s play area re-open to the community.

“I’m sure the new equipment and modern look will again make St David’s play area a popular destination for families.”

St Davids Play Area ReopeningResidents were invited to attend the re-opening to enjoy the new facility and chat with Council staff about plans to rewild the neighbouring land.

Among attendees was local resident, Alex Lewis and Wayne Eley who hold fond childhood memories of St David’s play area and attended the opening of the original site in the 1990’s.

Alex said: “I spent many of my childhood days at St David’s.

“I would rush to the park after school to meet my friends where we would hang out and play games.

“After having my first child I would spend most mornings pushing her on the same swings that I once played on.

“It has been special to create memories with my own children at the park whilst reminiscing and sharing stories about mine.”

Wayne said: “St David’s Park was a huge part of my life growing up.

“I’ve now got children of my own and I hope the new play area will become a big part of the new generation’s childhood.”
