Celtic Way Park has been identified as an area for improvement and the Council is seeking the views of the local community to enhance the range of outdoor activities on offer there.

Proposals include re-designing and refurbishing the existing play area, adding outdoor fitness equipment, a new communal seating and picnic area adjacent to the community centre and enhancing the biodiversity at the site through tree planting, re-wilding and other methods.

A public consultation is launching today, 9 May, for a period of six weeks. During this time the views of residents, community groups and school pupils will be sought to determine how the section 106 funding is spent.

A community drop-in session has been arranged for Thursday 15 June, between 3 – 6pm at Celtic Way Community Centre.

Section 106 funding has been used in recent years to upgrade play facilities at Ceri Road, following a public consultation to determine how funding should be spent. Celtic Way Park was identified as a longer term project, once more funding became available.

Cllr Ruba Sivagnanam, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement, Equalities and Regulatory Services, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for residents in Rhoose to shape the way in which community facilities are developed and enhanced using section 106 funding. The views of the community are vital in ensuring the funding is used to it’s fullest potential in providing facilities that the local community will enjoy.

“The proposals put forward by the Council are just suggestions at this stage and we will take the views of local residents on board in how best to enhance this popular open space.”
