Despite entering secondary school during the challenges of the pandemic, this year’s cohort demonstrated remarkable dedication and resilience, resulting in a truly outstanding set of results.

St Richard Gwyn Results Day StudentsAmong the many successes to celebrate at the school, 31 per cent of pupils achieved five A*/A grades, with 16 per cent achieving 10 A/A* grades or more. Overall, 92 per cent of pupils gained five A-C grades.

David Blackwell, Headteacher at St Richard Gwyn, said: “We are delighted for the year group as they have come such a long way. They joined us in the middle of the pandemic. It is amazing to think that nearly a third of the pupils achieved at least 5 A*/A grades.

"Beyond the statistics, there are so many individual stories of pupils that have overcome challenges. We are proud of all the pupils who worked incredibly hard to achieve their own personal bests. We want them to leave us happy with their outcomes as young people ready to take the next steps in their lives. We wish them every success.”

Deputy Headteacher Matt Dunn was also keen to emphasise the achievements of all the pupils: “The pupils have done brilliantly, and we wish them well in whatever they go on to do. We are proud of not only their achievements but the fantastic young people that they have become. Their success reflects the way staff, pupils and parents all work together.”

Laura Burnett, Senior Assistant Headteacher, said: “Results day has been a wonderful day of celebration. It is fantastic to see the results of the pupil’s success. We are a supportive community school, and we are so proud of them all!”

There has been a lot of exciting developments for the school recently as it also prepares for a brand new school building to be built, which will increase its capacity from 813 places to 1,050 places.

The new building – on the school’s existing site – is just one part of the Council’s long-term commitments to building inclusive and sustainable schools and forms a part of the ongoing Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme.
