Following the flag raising, attendees gathered inside the Civic Offices to enjoy an opportunity to connect with one another and reflect on Disability Pride Month.

Cllr Naomi Marshallsea, the Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan, said: “We celebrate Disability Pride Month each July. This is a time to raise awareness of disabilities, start positive conversations and celebrate the diversity of the disabled community.

“As a mum to a child with a disability, I fully believe in the social model of disability – an understanding that it is society that disables us, not our impairments.

“In the Vale, we aim to work towards a world where the barriers anyone faces are dismantled, so no one faces exclusion or marginalisation.”

Cllr Lis Burnett, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “As a Council, we seek to work together with the community to break down barriers and ensure that accessibility and inclusion is at the heart of everything we do.

“The flag raising for Disability Pride Month symbolises our ongoing journey as we seek to improve the experiences of all residents, and we look forward to continuing these important conversations about access, inclusion and equality throughout the year to make the Vale of Glamorgan a truly welcoming place for all.”
