Vale of Glamorgan
A long-time Barry resident, Beryl has lived in the town for nearly 40 years. Speaking about the exhibition, she said she was thrilled to be given the opportunity to present her first solo show. The exhibition officially opened on Saturday, 27 September 2025, and features a selection of Beryl’s distinctive pieces, each infused with a surreal or magical quality drawn from memory and imagination.Born in Llanelli, Beryl studied at Llanelli Art College after finishing school. Her artistic journey began in earnest in the early 1970s and since then, she has painted almost every day, developing a unique style that uses just three primary colours and white.Over the years, Beryl has sold more than 200 paintings, including a number of commissioned works. Her art is deeply inspired by the landscapes of Cornwall and Bavaria - her husband’s birthplace - as well as the dramatic mountain scenery of her native Wales.Cllr Rhiannon Birch, Cabinet Member for Education, Arts, and the Welsh Language, said: “We are delighted to be hosting Beryl’s artwork at the gallery, it is striking in both colour and structure. Each piece offers a unique snapshot into worlds that both exist and are imagined, and she infuses her work with a surrealistic or magical air, inspired by memories and imagination.”The exhibition runs until Saturday, 8 November 2025.
