Now in its third successful year, the Barry Bike Club – funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF) - continues to offer free weekly cycling sessions for local children aged 6–10.

The club, held at Tŷ Iolo in Barry on Tuesday evenings, is delivered by Pedal Power and is supported by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

The ReCYCLE project refurbishes donated bicycles, giving them a new lease of life and providing access to cycling for families who may otherwise struggle with the cost of a bike.

Mark Ellis, Community Investment and Involvement Officer for the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “Having been involved in this project from the outset, I am delighted to see Barry Bike Club increase in numbers year on year. It’s been great working alongside the Active Travel team and I’m already looking forward to next year and getting more local children involved with learning to ride a bike”.

Cllr Bronwen Brooks, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Places, added: “We’re incredibly proud to support projects like the Barry Bike Club, which not only promote physical activity, but also help children build confidence and a sense of community with their peers.

“It’s wonderful to see the Barry Bike Club go from strength to strength over recent years, and the addition of the donated bikes through the ReCYCLE project is a fantastic way to ensure even more children can enjoy the freedom and fun that cycling brings.”
