Barry Waterfront Regeneration Project Moves a Step Closer
A major regeneration scheme has moved a step closer after elements of the Barry Making Waves Project were granted planning permission.
The Council’s Planning Committee approved proposals for a water sports centre, education facility and cafe on an area known as the Mole.
Plans for 100 units of housing and park were also given the green light at a meeting last week.
Another component of the project, which was not part of the planning application, will see the Council’s Dock Office building redeveloped into a business development space.
Cllr Lis Burnett, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “This exciting project will transform a section of Barry Waterfront, significantly boosting its appeal and helping to support local businesses.
“The water sports centre will offer top-class leisure activities to bring visitors to Barry, while we are also building housing, much of which will be affordable, carrying out landscaping works and creating a park.
“The historic Dock Office building is being given a new lease of life as a modern, exciting space that will support businesses, attract investment and also bring more people into the area.
“This is all about building a brighter future for Barry, creating jobs, strengthening the local economy and making the most of our incredible waterfront.”
This work is being funded with the support of just under £20 million from the UK Government Levelling Up Programme.
