£1 Million Investment in Pencoedtre Park
The Vale of Glamorgan Council will significantly upgrade facilities at Barry’s Pencoedtre Park as part of a £1 million investment.
Funded through the UK Government’s Pride in Place scheme, the work will deliver:
- An upgraded splashpad
- A new concrete skatepark
- A new toilet block
Work is expected to begin on site in the autumn, with all improvements scheduled to be completed by April next year.
Over the coming weeks, the Council will begin the tendering process for the design and installation of the new skatepark. As part of this, local residents will be invited to share their ideas and help shape the final design before it’s agreed.
Cllr Lis Burnett, Leader of the Council, said: “This investment is about pride in our places and making sure our public spaces meet the needs of the communities who use them. We know how popular the splashpad at Pencoedtre Park is, it is always well used throughout the summer. We want to make sure that these improvements will provide new, high quality facilities for children, young people and families for years to come.
“Thanks to Pride in Place funding, we’re not only upgrading the existing splashpad but also giving the community a real opportunity to influence the design of the new skatepark, so it closely reflects what users want.”
Further details on skatepark engagement opportunities and project milestones will be shared in the coming weeks.
The existing splashpad will open for the summer season on Saturday 23 May, and work to upgrade it will begin once it has closed in the autumn.
Residents are encouraged to follow Council social media channels and visit the website for regular updates as the project progresses.
