Opening Event: Saturday 20 April 11am-1pm
A Link Between Two, is a collaborative exhibition between Angela Kingston and Sasha Kingston. This mother and daughter show, celebrates the work of these two well known Vale based artists. Each have their own unique style, yet like their relationship the artworks have close similarities that naturally speak to each other.
Angela Kingston’s, plants and their place, is based on the artists surroundings. Angela’s abstract, illustrative and sculptural work, reflects her interest in the natural world and the gentleness of Mother nature. Since Lockdown 2020, the awareness of climate change and the green canopy, Angela began a new series of work. The study of the trees and flowers in her garden, the local beach Col Col-huw, Llantwit Major and some of the artists favourite places, the ‘Remember’ flowers of France, on a Spanish patio, and Aberglasny’s Ninfarium which over time has taken her on a new journey.
Through the medium of drawing, painting, writing, collage, and installations, using the garden finds, she has looked for the essence of the subject to abstract, proceeding by elimination and most recently using collage to express the essential elements creating its own space.
Natural inspirations have included fossils found in coal, beach marks of fossils, shells, snail trails and seaweeds, the secret symbols of time, have been abstracted and intuitively placed on the drawn and painted surface. Always inspired by her surroundings, what’s growing where, in nature and new places, creates an on-going process with no end.
Sasha Kingston studied a MA in Constructed Textiles at the Royal College of Art, London. Over the past ten years, her work has been inspired by drawn marks, whilst intuitively, varying the medium. Her particular love of paper allows Sasha to develop the beautiful visual and tactile qualities in her work.
Developing her ideas through photography and drawings, Sasha is inspired by the local Coastal Landscape, Plant Life and most recently Footfall. The latter has led to a new body of work exploring the monochromatic colours and linear traces that capture her reflective journey of natural patterns and formations.
Sasha’s inspired paper, two- and three-dimensional wall hung, and lit constructions combine paint, print, graphite and stitch, that create beautiful visual and tactile qualities, stimulating the imagination.
Come and immerse yourself in nature and visit this exquisite combination of work by these two prolific Kingston artists.
