Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I get on to the scheme?
A health professional can refer you to the scheme.  A GP, practice nurse, physiotherapist or dietician can refer you to the scheme.  Speak to one of these professionals about getting referred at your next appointment.  If they are happy that you match the referral criteria for the scheme, they will complete a referral for you and send it to us here in the Vale.
  •  Is there a waiting list?

There is a short wait for entry onto the scheme.  We only have a small team and will work to do our best to shorten the wait, but at present there is a 6-8week wait for an assessment on site.  We will contact you once we have space for you to start the scheme and an assessment with a team member will be arranged.

  •  What happens at the assessment?
A member of the team will meet you at the leisure centre of your choice and talk with you about your health goals, previous activity, medications and current health.  This usually takes between 30-60minutes.  This session is not charged. We will also take some physical measures such as height, weight and blood pressure.
  •  How long does the scheme last?
The NERS scheme is 16 weeks in length.  In this time you can improve you greatly improve your health.  We have seen people lose weight, improve their blood pressure, improve their strength, move faster and get healthier over this time.
  •  How much does it cost?
Each session is priced at £2.50.  You can use our exercise referral classes or the gym.
  •  How many sessions should I do?
When you sign up for the scheme you are expected to attend twice per week.  If you want to attend more then you will probably see greater improvements in your health and fitness.
  •  What happens when I finish the scheme?
When you complete the scheme the team wil organise another assessment.  At this appointment your progress from the first assessment will be determined.  You will also be able to discuss the options to continue your exercise where you feel it is more convenient.  If you would like to try a different form of activity we can also help to arrange it with one of our approved community providers.
