Young Drivers: Aged 17-25

Pass Plus Cymru is an enhanced version of the standard Pass Plus course and is supported by the Driving Standards Agency.

 

It’s a short expert-led higher driving course designed to develop techniques, increase awareness and widen experience It’s available to young people aged 17-25 in Wales for just £20 as the rest is covered by the Welsh Government through grant funding to the local authorities.

 

Pass Plus Focuses on: 

  • Heading off on the motorway

  • Driving techniques and hazard awareness

  • Getting around at night

  • Coping with busy towns and cities

  • Driving on rural country roads

  • Thinking ahead

  • List Item 6

 

Benefits of Pass Plus:

  • Better driving skills

  • More chance of lower insurance

  • Less chance of a collision, or injuring yourself, friends and others

Practice your Driving Theory Test

Vale Residents who are learning to drive can practise for the Driving Theory Test through their local library. 

 

Access to Theory Test Pro is free for library members who call in to any Vale of Glamorgan Library.

 

Members can also access Theory Test Pro from outside of the library using their library card.

Mature Drivers Refresher Courses

It's never too late to increase our knowledge and driving is no exception. The Vale of Glamorgan Council Road Safety Section is offering half-day refresher courses to residents in the Vale.

 

One half-day theory session plus one hour of practical on road driving (optional).

 

The course is suitable for people who may wish to update/improve their driving skills or who may not have driven for some time and need to regain confidence.

 

Half-day session consists of:

  • Presentation - promoting driver awareness given by highly trained ex-police driver
  • Talk by local optician
  • Opportunity to drive (at a later date) with approved driving instructor (optional)

BikeSafe Cymru

BikeSafe is a Police led motorcyclist advisory, assessment and referral scheme. Workshops typically run throughout the spring and summer months, and through this website, you should be able to access and book a workshop close to you.

 

The aims of BikeSafe are to encourage those attending to then go onto take advantage of accredited post-test training and to encourage positive rider behaviour and attitudes.

Winter Driving Tips

Driving in the winter is very different than in other times of the year. Adverse weather and longer periods of darkness (especially after the clocks go back at the end of October) makes driving more hazardous. Sometimes conditions can be extreme, as we have found out over recent winters, with prolonged periods of heavy snow and floods.
