Connecting citizens with community, charity and voluntary support across the region.

 

GVS Community Liaison Officer supports families, carers, young adults and those experiencing long term medical conditions ages 18 to 60. Age Connects also offers a Community Liaison Service, also known as the Third Sector Broker, for older people.

The Community Liaison Officer role is a one stop shop service, working closely with health and social care teams to meet the needs of people in the Vale. The types of services involved in this role involve emotional and practical support to service users over the phone and in complex cases home visits are made. The CLO officer is then able to forward services users and support them to use other support available in the Vale of Glamorgan area.

The Veteran Advice service provides free, impartial, dedicated information, advice and support to members of the Armed Forces Community within the Vale of Glamorgan. The service covers a range of areas, including Benefits, Adult Social Care, Finances, Employment and Housing.

GVS helps to improve the quality of life of people and communities by supporting volunteers, volunteering opportunities and voluntary groups. GVS delivers an array of quality services to meet the needs of voluntary groups such as funding services, the volunteering officer and support setting up a new charity or group. The Community Liaison Officer is hosted under GVS and therefore GVS can provide this service directly and make home visits.

Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale, an independent registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. Our vision is to live in a society where older people are respected and enabled to meet their aspirations. Services offered by Age Connects in the Vale of Glamorgan included health support groups, befriending service, good neighbourhood scheme, welfare rights service and a Well being centre in Barry that can assist with further information and signposting.

 

MIND in The Vale

Mind in the Vale of Glamorgan is an independent mental health charity who affiliate to Mind National and work with and for people who experience mental health problems. They provide information so people are aware of their rights and can make informed choices. They also deliver guided self-help and social prescribing online, counselling services, peer support to prevent isolation, a national mental health helpline, psychological education and anger management courses.
