Town Centres

The Vale of Glamorgan has a diverse range of shopping centres, each with their own character and offering a wide variety of shopping choices.

A town centre is the 'Heartbeat of the Community', and they must remain vibrant & viable places to meet and shop!

Working with partners, the Council is helping to create the right environment for our town centres to flourish. This approach recognises that the private and community sectors play an important role in securing the investment and usage of town centres, and that the Council has a key enabling role to play in helping create successful town centres.

Barry

Barry has two shopping areas, Holton Road and High Street.

Llantwit Major

Llantwit Major town centre has a variety of shops, restaurants plus a selection of things to do and local amenities.

Cowbridge

Cowbridge is full of sophisticated shops and plays host to a fantastic food festival.

Penarth

Just across the water from Cardiff Bay, Penarth is a seaside town full of charm and character. The Vale of Glamorgan Farmers’ Market hold monthly markets in Penarth.

Town Centre Framework

The Council recently commissioned consultants to produce a framework to guide the future of the five principal town centres in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The framework report considered the role of Holton Road and High Street/Broad Street in Barry, and the town centres of Penarth, Llantwit Major and Cowbridge. Detailed site visits were undertaken and the commission considered the strengths and weaknesses of each centre as well as the challenges facing each centre.
