The scheme aims to actively promote health in the following areas:
Taking a positive approach, the scheme aims to recognise good practice so that nurseries, playgroups and childminders who are part of the scheme can gradually work their way through the topics above.
There are a number of pre-school settings that are currently signed up to the Healthy and Sustainable Pre-school Scheme and are undertaking some fantastic work. We hope that more settings will join the scheme in the future.
Partnership work is key to the success of the scheme. Many health habits are established at a young age, making the early-years environment an ideal time to influence a child’s health.
Early years practitioners have the potential to make a huge contribution to the health and wellbeing of children in their care, and the Vale of Glamorgan Healthy and Sustainable Pre-school Scheme helps them to do this.
