Report of the Monitoring Officer and Head of Legal and Democratic Services

 

Standards Conference Wales: 14th September 2018

Purpose of the Report

  1. To provide Members with an update in respect of discussions held at  the Standards Conference Wales on 14th September 2018.

Recommendation

That the report be noted.  

Reasons for the Recommendations

Having regard to the contents contained therein and the update provided by the Members who attended the conference.

Background

  1. The Standards Committee was advised at its January meeting of the Standards Conference 2018 which was to be held at Aberystwyth University on Friday 14th September, 2018 and provided with further details for the conference at its July meeting.
  2. The Conference was aimed at Councillors, Officers and Independent Members involved in promoting high standards of conduct within Authorities in Wales and an opportunity to network.
  3. Having been advised of the date of the Conference at the Standards Committee  meeting on 25th January, 2018, the Democratic Services Officer subsequently received an Expression of Interest of attending the conference from Mrs. P. Hallett shortly after that meeting. 
  4. At the July meeting the Standards Committee considered nominations and agreed attendance for the Conference of up to four delegates namely Mrs. P. Hallett, Councillor L. Burnett, the Monitoring Officer and Deputy Monitoring Officer. 

Relevant Issues and Options

  1. Mrs. Hallett, Councillor Burnett and the Monitoring Officer will provide a verbal update in respect of the topics, discussions and any issues covered at the conference for Members consideration at the Committee meeting.

Resource Implications (Financial and Employment)

  1. Costs including Conference costs, accommodation and expenses of approximately £800 to be paid from Service Area budget.
