Scrutiny

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has four Scrutiny Committees. Their job is to examine services and issues that affect people living in the Vale of Glamorgan and make recommendations to improve them for the future.

 

  •  What is Scrutiny

    Scrutiny is a key part of the Council's political structure and plays an important role in ensuring that the Council's services are delivered effectively, efficiently and in the interests of residents and those who work or visit the Vale of Glamorgan by listening to local people, challenging and influencing decision-making and, where necessary, seeking improvement for the benefit of the public.

     

    The Vale of Glamorgan Council has appointed four Scrutiny Committees, which also come together to review the Council's performance against Vale 2030 (Corporate Plan). 

     

    The role of our Scrutiny Committees is to look at the services and issues that affect the lives of people in the Vale of Glamorgan and raise impactful recommendations for consideration by the Council's Cabinet and other areas.

     

    Scrutiny and Cabinet

    The Vale of Glamorgan Council adopted a Leader and Cabinet style decision system with Scrutiny Committees established to advise on policy formulation and hold the Cabinet (also known as the Executive) to account as a critical friend.

How residents can get involved in Scrutiny Meetings

There are a number of ways to get involved in Scrutiny meetings, including:

 

Registering to Speak at a Scrutiny Committee about an agenda item

 

Sending written comments ahead of the meeting to democratic@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk
