Get ready for Read to the Beat, arriving online and in your local library this summer.
Vale Libraries invites families across Vale of Glamorgan to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge 2026 from the Reading Agency. This year’s theme is Read to the Beat! The theme celebrates the joy of music and the power it has to move, inspire and connect people – all through the magic of reading.
Launching on July 4 in Wales and England, the Summer Reading Challenge invites children aged 4–11 to visit their local library, discover new books, and enjoy a summer full of fun, imagination, and musical inspiration.
Children can collect free activity packs, participate in music-themed events, and borrow specially selected books – all designed to keep them curious, active, and engaged with reading throughout the summer holidays.

This year’s Challenge is brought to life with illustrations by award-winning author and illustrator, Harry Woodgate.
