The Government Counter-Terrorism Strategy published in 2023 will continue to be organised around four workstreams, each comprising a number of key objectives:
Pursue: to stop terrorist attacks
Prevent: to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism
Protect: to strengthen our protection against a terrorist attack
Prepare: to mitigate the impact of a terrorist attack
Prepare means getting ready in case a terrorist attack happens, so that the damage is reduced and people are kept safe.
Emergency plans: Making sure police, ambulance, fire services, and others know what to do if there’s an attack
Training and practice: Running drills and exercises so everyone is prepared to respond quickly
Helping victims: Making sure there is support for people affected by an attack
Keeping things running: Making sure important services (like hospitals, transport, and electricity) can keep going after an attack
