Vale School Governors' Association (VSGA)

VSGA was formed in 1996 and is the recognised representative body for governors of schools throughout the Vale of Glamorgan. All governors in each type of school within the Vale are entitled to participate in VSGA.

The Management Committee is made up of 15 elected governors together with 2 elected Parent Governor Representatives.

VSGA was set up to:

  • Promote best practice in governance in schools within the Vale of Glamorgan Local Authority (LA);
  • To promote partnership amongst schools and between schools and the LA;
  • To work with stakeholders to ensure adequate resources for schools within the LA;
  • To represent the Association’s views on issues relating to school governance and the management and resourcing of schools to relevant authorities and organisations.

VSGA together with the support of the Governor Support Unit produces the termly Governor Newsletter. VSGA also helps host the Education Update and Briefing Sessions for Chairs and Vice Chairs which meets with the Council’s Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Director of Learning and Skills and the Heads of Service.

Newsletter

The Vale School Governors’ Association (VSGA) supports the Governor Support Unit (GSU) with producing a termly Governor Newsletter updating governors on local and national school governance and educational news.

The Newsletter was launched in 2003 and has developed over the years with contributions from Headteachers, their school staff, school governing bodies and their Chairs as well as from Senior Managers and Officers working within the Vale education service.
