Training for Childcare Providers

There are lots of training courses available for registered childcare providers in the Vale of Glamorgan. These courses are funded by the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership.

We will email you to let you know if there is a place available on the course you have selected. Places are limited to one per setting and are on a first come first served basis.

You need to pay before you can attend a course. Due to limited spaces, you will be charged a £50 administration fee if you book a course and do not attend or complete it. This fee applies to all courses, including free courses.

    You will be required to attend and complete both days and pass the course to gain your certificate.

  • This is an online training course. is The cost of the course is £10.

     

    The course covers the following areas: 

    • Accidents including slips, trips and falls

    • Legal responsibilities

    • Risk assessment

    • Hazardous substances (COSHH)

    • Workplace health, safety and welfare

    • Work equipment

    • Fire

    • First aid

    • Manual handling

     

    You will have up to 12 months to complete the course.

  • Safeguarding and Child Protection Level 2

    This is a face-to-face course based in a classroom. The cost of the course is free to childcare providers.

  • We are running four free online training modules via Microsoft Teams to upskill practitioners in early years settings. The training is delivered by Professionals from both Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan Education Service. 

     

    Module 1: Person Centred Practice in the Early Years

    • Saturday 17 September 2022 9.30am - 12pm

     

    This module covers:

    • What is Person Centred Practice (PCP)?

    • Why is it useful?

    • How we do PCP?

    • What does PCP looks like in the Early Years setting?


    Module 2: Inclusion for All in the Early Years

    • Saturday 1 October 2022 9.30am - 12pm

     

    This module covers:

    • To build on current practice in supporting an inclusive approach for all children in the Early Years

    • To ensure provision is matched to individual stages of development

    • To upskill practitioners in the process of early identification to meet the individual needs of children

    • To understand the inclusive model of provision and when to refer to external agencies


    Module 3: Working Together in the Early Years

    • Saturday 5 November 2022 9.30 - 12pm

     

    This module covers:

    • Understand the importance of working together as partners to achieve the best outcomes for the child and family

    • How to have sensitive face to face conversations

    • When and why to seek advice from others

    • How to avoid conflict and resolve disagreements 


    Module 4: The Early Years ALN Process Explained 

    • Saturday 26 November 2022 9.30am - 12pm

     

    This module covers:

    • The aims of the ALNET Act and Code and the implications for Early Years

    • How the ALN process will change for children not yet in statutory education

    • The inclusive model of provision in the Early Years

    • Identifying whether a child may have ALN and the evidence to support this

    • Roles and responsibilities in the new process

    • What a Person Centred Meeting looks like and the information gathered to write an Individual Development Plan

  • There are fully funded spaces available on the Cache Level 3 Award in Transition to Playwork.

     

    If you have an existing Level 3 Childcare Qualification and need a Playwork Qualification then this is the course for you! You could have the qualification needed to be compliant with National Minimum Standards in as little as 12 weeks.
