Local Government Election

 

Your Local Government represents you in the Vale of Glamorgan County and your Local Town or Community Council.

 

 

Local Government Elections are held to elect people from your local community to become Councillors. You will be represented by Councillors with the Vale of Glamorgan Council plus Councillors with your Local Town or Community Council.

 

Councils are responsible for providing local services and facilities.

 

 

Information for voters

Eligible Voters

To be eligible to vote in this election you must be:

  • registered to vote

  • 16 or over on the day of the election (‘polling day’)

  • a British, Irish, Commonwealth or EU citizen

  • a resident in Wales

  • not be legally excluded from voting

For more information on who can vote, or to register to vote please visit the Electoral Commission website. If you haven’t already, you will need to register to vote by midnight on Thursday 14 April 2022.

 

Poll Cards and Postal Votes 

Poll cards will be despatched on Tuesday 22 March 2022 and a supplementary run despatched on Tuesday 19 April 2022.   

 

Postal Votes will be despatched on Saturday 16 April 2022 by 1st class post. A supplementary run of postal vote packs will be despatched on Friday 22 April 2022.

 

Please note, the first date we can reissue postal votes for lost or spoilt postal vote packs is Thursday 28 April 2022. You can request a replacement postal vote pack up until 5pm on poll day.

Councillors

Once elected, the representatives are known as Councillors. Councillors spend most of their time working and/or living, in their local area.

 

They attend regular council committee meetings at various venues within the Vale of Glamorgan to discuss and decide upon local services and facilities.
