  • Key Dates - Candidates and Agents

    Delivery of nomination papers: 19 working days before poll

     

    Deadline for withdrawals of nomination: 19 working days before poll

     

    Deadline to appoint an election agent: 19 working days before poll

     

    Deadline to appoint polling and counting agents: 5 working days before poll

 

  • Key Dates - Registration and Absent Voting

    Deadline for application for registration: 12 working days before poll

     

    Deadline for receiving new applications to vote by post or postal proxy: 5pm 11 working days before poll

     

    Deadline to make changes to existing postal and proxy votes: 5pm 11 working days before poll

     

    Deadline for receiving new applications to vote by proxy: 5pm 6 working days before poll

     

    First date electors can apply for replacement for lost postal votes: 4 working days before poll

     

    Deadline for emergency proxy applications: 5pm on poll day

     

    Last time electors can apply for a replacement for spoilt or lost postal votes: 5pm on poll day

     

    Poll card dispatch: Approximately 25 working days before poll

     

    Postal ballot pack dispatch: Approximately 14 working days before poll


 

County Council 

  • County Councillor - Nomination Forms and Guidance:

    *When completing the nomination paper please ensure you complete and return the following:-

    • Consent to nomination
    • Certificate of Authorisation (if standing for a political party)
    • Request for a party emblem paper (if standing for a political party)

     

    Election Agents (County candidates only)

    Every candidate MUST have an election agent (although a candidate can be his/her own election agent).  An Election Agent is the person responsible in law for the proper management of the election campaign and finances.  An Election Agent must have an office address for all official documentation to be sent to.  The Appointment of Election Agent's form is included with the nomination paper pack.

     

 

Town and Community Councils

    *When completing the nomination paper please ensure you complete and return the following:-

    Town and Community candidates are not required to appoint an Election Agent.

 

  

Polling Agents

Polling Agents can observe proceedings on polling day at polling places.  Only one polling agent for a particular candidate can be present at a particular polling station at any given time.  Polling Agents may check the ballot box is empty before the opening of the poll and can be present to assist in detecting any incidences of personation. 

 

Please ensure any appointed polling agents do not impede, obstruct or intimidate voters on their way in or out of the polling station.

 

Postal Vote Agents

Postal vote Agents may observe proceedings at the opening of postal votes.

 

 

Counting Agents

Counting Agents may observe proceedings at the verification and the count and oversee the process drawing attention to count staff of any doubtful ballot papers.

 

 

Tellers

No form is required for the appointment of Tellers.  Tellers may stand outside the polling place and may record the elector number of people who have voted to assist other party workers.  Tellers MUST NOT impede, obstruct or intimidate voters on their way in or out of the polling place. 

 

Tellers have no legal status and voters have the right to refuse to give them any information.
