Off Grid Heating Fuel Support Scheme
You may be able to get a one-off £200 payment if your home uses heating oil or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and you receive support through the Council Tax Reduction Scheme (CTRS)
This scheme is funded by the UK Government to help people on low incomes with rising energy costs.
What the payment is for
The £200 payment is designed to:
- Help with the cost of heating oil or LPG
- Support households facing higher energy bills
- Reduce financial pressure and the risk of debt
The payment will usually be made directly to you so you can decide how to use it.
Who can apply
You may be eligible if both of the following apply:
1. You receive Council Tax Reduction
You (or your household) must:
- Be responsible for paying council tax, and
- Have received, or successfully applied for, CTRS between 1 April 2026 and 31 July 2026
2. Your main heating is oil or LPG
You must also:
- Use heating oil or LPG as your main source of heating or hot water
- Provide recent evidence (for example, a bill less than 6 months old showing your address)
- Live in the property as your main home
What you’ll get
- £200 per household
- Paid directly to you
Only one payment is available per household.
What you need to do
If you already receive CTRS
You’ll need to:
- Confirm your heating type
- Provide a recent heating oil or LPG invoice (last 12 months)
- Provide your bank details
If you do not already receive CTRS
You will need to apply for CTRS first.

- A heating oil or LPG invoice or receipt (last 12 months)
- A bank statement showing your bank details
Apply for the Support Scheme
Deadline: 30 September 2026
What happens next
If you’re eligible, the council will:
- Confirm your bank details
- Check you still use oil or LPG

This payment will not affect your benefits, including:
- Universal Credit
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
