The Golden Pass Scheme

The Golden Pass Scheme offers over 60s in the Vale 8 free hours of sport and wellbeing activities within their local community. 

National Exercise Referral Scheme (NERS)

Age Friendly Vale

The Vale of Glamorgan Council works with a number of services across the Vale, like the 50 plus forum, to provide a range of activities and social gatherings for older residents. 

Free Activities and Resources

In collaboration with local food hubs, the Council also provides free equipment packs for families to borrow from Vale Libraries. There are also several free resources to help families access physical activity and play opportunities in the community.

Mind in the Vale

Mind in the Vale of Glamorgan is a local mental health charity connected to Mind National. They support people experiencing mental health challenges by providing information, practical help, and emotional support.

Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern

Community transport, prescription collection and telephone or face to face befriending. Events such as soup lunch club, memory cafe, wellbeing garden and afternoon community club.

Libraries

Borrow books, music and films, enjoy free internet access and use our online resources at Vale libraries.

Leisure Centres

There are a number of leisure centres and community centres across the Vale that offer various activities for both adults and children.

We have developed a number of walking activities and routes to help keep you or your healthy, active, and having fun. 

 

Free swimming sessions in the Vale of Glamorgan

Many of our residents are entitled to free swimming sessions at Legacy Leisure centres in the Vale of Glamorgan. This is a dedicated time slot for you to use the swimming pool in, not a swimming lesson.

 

  • People over the age of 60

    Legacy Leisure Centres offer free swimming sessions for people over the age of 60. You can book these sessions online. You will need to register for the 'Aquatically Active Scheme' at reception to redeem your free session. People over the age of 60 can also swim during any other session for £2.70

    Barry Leisure Centre - Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12.15 - 1pm

    Penarth Leisure Centre - Tuesday and Thursday from 12.30 - 1.30pm

    Llantwit Major Leisure Centre - Tuesdays from 2:15 - 3:15pm

  • Veterans
    Veterans can swim for free anytime at Barry Leisure centre. Please provide proof of your MOD ID at reception to redeem your free swim.
