Park Walks and Treasure Hunt Walks

We have compiled a series of leaflets that identify walking routes within and between local parks where you can enjoy the interesting features and lovely views whilst having some exercise. We have also compiled a series of treasure hunt walk leaflets for families to complete which include some places of interest and also additional physical activities, we hope you enjoy them.

A great way to encourage the younger members of your family (and the young at heart) to embark on an outing to the coast and countryside. Download one of the Vale’s Augmented Reality Apps and games which bring history to life whilst you are visiting the beautiful sites across the Vale.

AR at Romilly Park

Whilst taking a stroll find out about the many different tree species that can be found in Romilly Park, Barry, with our fun Augmented Reality (AR) tree trails app. Choose between a short or long trail then follow the GPS map to find the trees. When you arrive at a tree, look out for the round AR icon on the tree's panel, tap the AR button and point your mobile device at the panel to meet Cyril the Squirrel in Augmented Reality and unlock more about each of the trees. As you collect trees you can play the AR leaf catcher game and store everything you’ve collected in your own 3D park.

AR at Porthkerry Country Park

Porthkerry Country Park has so much to see and do, and this app will allow you to bring parts of the park to life as you get out and explore. The app has GPS triggered collectable trails which will allow you to explore the park, collecting virtual plants and animals along the way while you look out for the real ones. You can collect myths and legends from around the park with the story trail and there’s a kids’ collectable trail around the meadow area too enabling them to collect facts about different animals while they run around. Once you’ve collected your AR characters, stories, fauna, flora, they will be saved into your collections library to read about whenever you like.
