Black Bag Collections

Residents will be able to put out up to six black bags for collection on their scheduled black bag collection day between 29 December 2025 and 16 January 2026.

The normal limit of 3 black bags per household will resume from Monday 19 January 2026.

Recycling

All your leftovers including vegetable peelings and turkey carcasses can go in your food waste bin. Christmas cards and cardboard without glitter can be recycled.

Please do not include any wrapping paper in your recycling bags or boxes.

Unfortunately, most wrapping paper cannot be recycled due to the addition of glitter, shining foils, sellotape etc. and therefore should be placed in your black bag.

However, if you do think that your wrapping paper may be recyclable, you can do the all important “scrunch test”.

Unfortunately, we are unable to collect fairy lights, sticky tape, bows, tinsel/decorations and polystyrene.

If you are unsure what you can and cannot recycle this Christmas, take a look at our online A-Z guide.

Christmas Trees

We will be collecting Christmas trees from designated collection points from Monday 12 January 2026 to Saturday 24 January 2026. Christmas tree collection points will not be monitored by staff for the entire duration of their opening hours.

  • We can only accept real trees for recycling

  • Please remove any decorations and soil

  • If longer than 6 foot, please cut down to size

If you are unable to drop your Christmas tree off at one of our designated collection points, or you would like to recycle your Christmas tree before the designated collection date in your area, you can recycle your Christmas tree at one of our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs). HWRC appointments will not be necessary if you are only dropping off your Christmas tree.

If you are unable to drop off your tree and you subscribe to the garden waste collection service please arrange a garden waste collection. If longer than 6 foot, please cut down.
