  • Lithium-ion batteries

We are finding an increase in vapes, which include Lithium-ion batteries, being placed inside blue plastic bags and white battery bags. These batteries are not standard household waste and must never be put out for kerbside recycling or refuse collection in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Lithium-ion batteries are highly volatile. When crushed inside our collection lorries, they can ignite, causing dangerous fires that put our crews and vehicles at risk.

How to stay safe and recycle correctly:

Keep them out of bags: Do not place any device containing a lithium-ion battery, including vapes, into any of your recycling bags or boxes. They should also not be placed inside your black bags.

Use our Household Recycling Centres: Items containing these batteries can be taken to the Barry Recycling Centre or Llandow Recycling Centre.
